LOCAL eatery The Pickled Fig’s new weekly Night of the Long Table is filled with lively conversation, relaxed, cosy atmosphere, and truly exceptional food.
With the sound of waves crashing behind us, my friend and I stepped out of the cold night air and into the warm candle-lit glow of The Pickled Fig South Beach.
We sat down at our communal table to a smiling welcome from the family next to us and instantly felt right at home.
Our entrees arrived looking like pieces of art.
Topped with glacial mounds of soft marinated goat’s cheese, basil pesto and pan-warmed baby roma tomatoes, the vegetarian bruschetta was full of colour and flavour.
My friend’s cerviche of barramundi on earthy beetroot sourdour was an ideal entree to fit our beach setting.
The fish was seasoned with coriander and lime, while bitter fresh greens, charred sweetcorn and drizzled balsamic balanced the plate.
The excitement in the room was palpable when our mains arrived.
The linguini was cooked to al dente perfection and soaked up the rich roasted bell pepper sauce.
With lean, peppery meatballs and a dollop of herbed pesto, my friend announced it to be the best spaghetti she had ever tasted.
The sweet butternut pumpkin had melted through the creamy rice of my risotto, and the kick of blue-vein gorgonzola crumbled on top; the dish warmed me from head to toe and the desserts also made the mark.
I overheard the couple next to us conspire to lick their plate clean, and I couldn’t help but lean over to agree.
At the end of this incredible three-course meal, The Pickled Fig only ask that you pay what you think its worth.
