Solid Food

First then there was confusion in Abbie's little eyes, then they opened wide in amazement, then her mouth was open again and her chubby little hand reached for the spoon.

Thus was the reaction to her first taste of solids.

When I say solids, I guess I mean a tasteless slush made out of ground rice and breast milk, but we all have to start somewhere.

Two days into the world of solid food and my little girl is already pretty enthusiastic.
In the lead up to this little milestone, she had been asking for food every two-and-a-half hours during the day and every three hours at night.

After her first sloppy meal from a spoon I got five hours of straight sleep that night. Bliss.

In preparation for this momentous day I bought a bright blue and green set that had suckers to stick to the tray table, two types of bowl and a spoon that changes colour when the food is too hot.

I lovingly prepared the tiny amount of mixture suggested for first timers and set up my new mess proof contraption.
The first thing Abbie did was pull the bowl, complete with suckers, off the high chair tray and chewed on it.

The only reason she didn't wear her first meal was that there was so little of it that she didn't tip the bowl high enough to spill.
Good thing too, because it took ages to express that much milk. Cold boiled water tomorrow.

Now Abbie is on solids there is a whole new world of stuff I can gleefully waste my money on.

And let's face it - I don't need anything else to consume my dwindling resources.
I've also discovered the joys of Internet shopping.

I click a few buttons, type a few numbers and about a week later I get some nappies or a grobag in the mail.

It's like getting presents!

And if they're for Abbie, then I'm not really indulging myself right?
