IT’S funny to see former Prime Ministers rolled out to help with election campaigns.
Hi, remember me?
I once ran the country and was reasonably popular.
Yes, I’ll kiss your baby as long you as you promise to vote for what’s-his-name over here.
Julia Gillard has spoken about the election campaign formula in recent days, vowing to take control of the campaign and do things her way.
But let’s be honest, is Ms Gillard really going to do something so radical to blow us away in the next few weeks.
There is indeed a way in which Australia’s political parties like to run things.
A tried and true method that is as safe as it is boring.
Announce policy, promise money, do something to make you look human, repeat.
Labor are particularly keen on using the likes of former leader Bob Hawke to pump up the campaign in what would be deemed marginal seats.
But why?
Does Bob’s semi-celebrity status really make a difference?
Come on guys it is time to stop treating the nation like idiots.
We know full well what you are trying to do and you should know full well it does not work.
Most voters have their mind made up prior to the election circus and the shenanigans of the major party leaders simply make for some cringe-worthy media moments.
