COMMERCE Minister Simon O’Brien has officially opened offshore engineering company AME’s newest facility in Henderson.
The $3 million facility at the Australian Marine Complex has been purpose-built to support AME and Greenmonster Offshore (GMO) activities.
The waterside facility promises to enhance AME’s capabilities as a niche contractor in the oil and gas sector and provides a staging area for equipment repair and maintenance services, an assembly site for oversize structural assemblies.
All GMO rental equipment will be mobilised and demobilised through the facility, allowing the company to handle and store a greater volume of assets and invest in an additional $2 million in equipment.
AME director Saul Wende said he expected to employ up to 15 more people as a result of the expansion and that the facility’s construction had benefited the local economy.
“Through building, we have already spent $1.5 million locally in the construction of the facility,” he said
“GMO is now sourcing tools, equipment and materials from local suppliers, and therefore we will be spending an additional $1 million to $2 million locally per annum.”
