A PROJECT designed to create an eco-friendly wetland system at the Bayswater Riverside Gardens has scooped a prestigious award.

Woodlands resident Stefanie Jones has won the student category of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects 2012 Project Awards.

The University of Western Australia honours graduate designed the Bayswater Constructed Wetland Project last year as part of her vision to “cleanse catchment water” in the area.

Now working full-time at Subiaco landscape architecture firm Plan E, the 22-year-old said the award was a wonderful start to her career.

“It is rewarding to know that the work I completed while in university was so highly regarded,” Ms Jones said.

“The design fuses nature, urban life and the community.”

Judge Philip Palmer said Ms Jones’ project was based on extensive consultation and research, which translated creatively to the final design.
