Store leads charge for greener environment

BATTERY World in Welshpool has gone ‘green’ by adding a battery recycling service.

Owner Paul Edwards said it was part of the company’s efforts to be perceived as “a responsible retailer” and to help the environment.

“We feel strongly about this issue, because most household batteries are thrown in the bin with household waste and end up in landfill,” he said.

“So we have taken on the responsibility of becoming a recycling drop off point for all types of batteries, from size AAA to large truck batteries.”

Mr Edwards said he wanted to spread the message of the recycling program to the broader community, not just to customers entering the store.

He encouraged people with used batteries to take them to the store’s recycling facility on site at 54 Tate Street, Welshpool. Visit welshpool@batteryworld.com.au for more information.
