BALLAJURA resident Xuan Le will soon have the chance to further her research after being chosen as one of six WA women to receive 2010 Prime Minister’s Australian Asia Endeavour Awards.

The inaugural awards will allow 20 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate students from universities around Australia to study and work in an Asian country for up to a year, fully funded.

The Murdoch University postgraduate student will travel to Singapore to research the use of nanotechnology for the treatment of stroke at the National University of Singapore.

Ms Le said nanotechnology was the creation of materials, devices and systems at the near-atomic or nanometre level.

“I love that nanotechnology has the potential to revolutionise and change every part of our lives,” she said.

“To be able to design new materials that can help to enhance medical treatments can be very exciting as the potential is limitless and ultimately in the long run we can design treatments for specific individuals and their diseases.

“Ultimately if I can help save someone’s life from my research, it will be very gratifying and be worth the effort.”
