LEEMING’S Caitlan Rinaldy (7) will perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall next month after winning the American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition 2011.
Caitlan took first place in the ages six to 10 category, beating contestants from all over the world, including the United States, Indonesia, Costa Rica and Italy.
She started playing piano at age 5, with teacher Yoon Sen Lee guiding her through her studies.
Mother Silvia Rinaldy said playing the piano was something Caitlan had always wanted to do.
“She says music is her, that she can express herself and everyone will understand her mood,” she said. “She wants to be a concert pianist when she is older and a composer so she can travel around the world to share her music.
“We are proud of her perseverance and persistence. She plays hard and practises hard, and we all learn so much from her.”
