MORE than 200 competitors from across WA and a team of juniors from China joined in a series of tennis tournaments at Midland Lawn Tennis Club late last month.
The tournaments, part of the Australian Money Series and the Optus Junior Tour White Series, were organised in conjunction with Tennis West, cementing the Midland club’s status as a regional tennis centre.
Valuable Australian ranking points for all grades were at stake, as well as cash prizes.
The winner of the men’s open singles event was Cameron Fenner (Midland and Woodbridge clubs) while Lance Hinds (Hensman Park and East Fremantle clubs) was runner-up.
Caitlin Cridland (South Perth and Kensington) was women’s open winner, with Midland’s Jessica Chaine the runner-up.
Other results: Under-18 boys: winner, Craig Campbell (Wembley Downs, Churchlands), runner-up, Joel Pleydell (Wembley Downs); under-18 girls: Jodie Thatcher (Roleystone), Kate Erceg (Midland and Caversham); under-16 boys: Kevin Kusel (Iluka), Sheldon Scott (Busselton).
Under-14 boys, Linus Goh (Nollamara, Dalkeith), Jack Lyttle (North Beach); under-14 girls: Wei Zan Lan (China), Maddison Inglis (Blue Gum, Maida Vale); under-12 boys: Matthew Taylor (Midland, Wannamal), Mitchell Griffiths (Reabold, City Beach); under-12 girls: Megan Kauffman (Hensman, Nedlands); Sasha Bollweg (Blue Gum Park).
Under-10 boys: Tom Maouris (Dalkeith); Nikola Dotlik (Bayswater, Beechboro); under-10 girls: Kate Lyttle (North Beach); Anja Kovacevic (Hensman Park, Kalamunda).
